San Antonio cybersecurity firm SandTech Solutions recently unveiled a new security operations center located in the building adjacent to its original Magic Drive property.
While the company has a long-established reputation in cybersecurity as a defense contractor with mainly Air Force clients, in recent years SandTech has branched out into the commercial sector, Chief Operating Officer Greg McCulley said.
“We asked ourselves what if we could provide the same degree of … high-end security capabilities to medium-sized or small-sized businesses … that we provide to the National Security Agency or the Department of Defense or other organizations?” The new operations center, while only about 30 feet by 25 feet, will function predominantly as a call center for managed IT, housing a dozen research analysts and security operators at a time working in shifts. The new space enables the company to provide full-time support to current commercial clients and accommodate future clients, McCulley said.
SandTech, established in 2012, has approximately 70 employees. Its IT department has quadrupled in the past year and continues to grow.
“We anticipate adding additional IT staff as we continue to mature the facility,” McCulley said.
About one-third of the company’s employees are located in San Antonio, while others support federal contracts on Lackland Air Force Base, in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere.
As security incidents emerge among commercial customers, the new location is where calls will be directed.
“That will enable SandTech operators to share awareness about ongoing incidents and develop response mechanisms that will best protect customers,” McCulley said.
Last year the company ranked No. 5 on the Business Journal’s Veteran-owned Businesses list and No. 8 on the Fastest-growing Businesses list for companies with less than $10 million in revenue.
